Flatiron School is a school that offers coding courses at high-quality and low prices. It’s an excellent option for those who want to learn how to code, but cannot afford one of the many more expensive schools out there. This review dives into Flatiron’s cost structure and its offerings – both online and in New York City
The “flatiron school reviews 2021” is a great option for those who want to learn coding. The cost of this course can vary depending on the length and location of the course.
Flatiron School was founded in 2012 by Adam Enbar and Avi Flombaum in New York City. They offer coding, data science, and cybersecurity classes that you may attend in person or online at one of their eight locations. Are they a viable alternative if you wish to pursue a career in technology? What is the expense of their education? What are the opinions of the public? Flatiron School had to navigate some turbulence before they started running YouTube commercials telling you how they were voted Best Coding Bootcamp by Career Karma. In 2014 and 2015, they received two rounds of investment. They were sued by the New York State Attorney General for a few of infractions two years later, in 2017. Operating without a license is one thing, but misleading advertising is another.
Flatiron School had a 98.5 percent employment rate for its graduates, according to Wikipedia, however this statistic includes apprentice employees and freelancers. Meanwhile, they claimed that the average graduating wage was $74,447, but that this figure only included those who got full-time jobs. Whoops. They were given a slap on the wrist and agreed to pay a $375,000 fine.
Flatiron School was purchased by WeWork later that year, in October. (If you haven’t already, watch the WeWork documentary on Hulu.) You’ll be grateful.) Then came Access Labs, a program aimed at making technology education more accessible to those who are financially disadvantaged. Flatiron School bought Designation, a UX/UI design school in Chicago, in August of 2018. They established campuses in Austin, Chicago, Denver, Houston, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., in addition to New York City. WeWork sold Flatiron School to Carrick Capital Partners in 2020.
So, how much does it cost? To enroll at Flatiron School, you must pay a $500 deposit and the remaining $16,900 tuition in one single amount before the start of your first session. They do, however, provide connections to two third-party websites that provide “competitive financing.” To begin your Flatiron School experience, submit your application, meet with an admissions representative, submit a sample assignment and discuss it with an instructor, and get a verdict on whether or not you are admitted within four business days.
For all courses, you’ll need your own computer. On-campus students will graduate in around three and a half months, while virtual students will finish in between five and fifteen months. It’s a lot of pressure. Plan on putting in at least 60 hours a week on projects, lectures, studying, and assignments.
The majority of Flatiron School evaluations are good. Wendy McNair commented on Course Report, “Flatiron is a tough, challenging curriculum that needs your preparation (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ruby, GitHub) and commitment.” “The Software Engineering program consisted of five modules, each of which culminated in a project. Instructors have a wealth of expertise. They encourage you to seek out solutions on your own, but they also push you to do so.”
Poor education and a “alienating culture” were the only criticisms I discovered. Even those persons, however, acknowledged that their overall result was favorable. On a Quora post, software developer Rebecca Poulson noted, “I got a position immediately after graduation where I am well-paid to perform important work.”
My only suggestion is that if you’re interested in computers, why not take a modest risk and start your own online business at a fraction of the cost? You’d have complete control over your earnings and schedule. While it isn’t easy, I don’t think it’s any more difficult than working 60+ hour weeks for months at a time as a Flatiron student.
