THE NEXT STEP: COMPARE THIS TO AMAZON FBA
It’s fascinating to note that Nine University was formerly only a single course. Enrollment cost anything from $2,000 to $5,000. They’d attempt to upsell you a $10,000 to $15,000 mastermind after you were enrolled. Taylor and Kale earned a lot of money off of it this way. Their prosperity, however, would be their undoing. Taylor and Kale continued airing their embarrassing commercials harder and harder as they made money hand over fist. It worked, as cringey as they were. Sales soared to several million dollars every month.
The internet then decided one day that it had had enough. Nine University was branded a hoax by skeptics and disgruntled students. A swindle. A slew of half-baked Amazon FBA money-making ideas that you can get for free all over the internet. Worse, they accused Kale and Taylor of removing bad ratings and inserting bogus five-star reviews. It came to the point that Nine University had to shut its doors for a spell. They just vanished, switched off all of their advertisements, and handed over control to a new generation of Amazon experts.
Now they’re back, with the same old advertisements (“Oh wait, I’m in a Pittsburgh alley getting outta my Volkswagen Golf”) but a whole different revenue model. When you visit Nine University’s website now, it has a much more corporate air to it. Their group has grown. In addition to their product portfolio. They now have:
- Nine Custom University
- Boost Number Nine
- Zoom Consulting is a consulting firm that specializes on
- Boost for Honey Badgers
- Accelerated
- Academy
- Masterminds
Basically, everything an Amazon FBA seller might possibly need, at any price point, from a few dollars (for a tiny, specialized course) to tens of thousands of dollars (for done-for-you solutions). The move appeals to me for two reasons. One, they can service (and so profit from) more individuals with a more diversified offering. Two, it’s a giant middle finger to everyone who branded Kale and Taylor liars on Reddit, Trustpilot, the Better Business Bureau, Quora, YouTube, and other sites. Right? Because Nine University is no longer merely a get-rich-quick scheme.
As a result, it was a wise commercial decision. What about their consumers, though? What should a prospective buyer of Nine University keep an eye out for? First and foremost, I’d be worried about the quality of the product. With so many new products and services, you have to ask whether Kale and Taylor truly put the necessary personnel and mechanisms in place to ensure that each product and service can stand alone. Or did they simply throw something together and delegate it to a few of their favorite Nine University members?
Expect upsells as well. Let’s imagine you spend $147 on Mining For Gold, a down-and-dirty Amazon product research course. On their Nine U Academy website, it’s one of several snack-sized e-learning programs they provide. Once inside, you’ll almost certainly be bombarded with time-sensitive offers for free classes, snazzy software, and premium-priced services. You might still end up with a big credit card charge if you’re not cautious, thanks to the Nine University marketing machine.
Last but not least, are you interested in Amazon FBA? Or might it be better to spend your time, energy, and money on something else entirely? Maybe it’s ours. There are no items, no delivery, and no customer service. There’s no one telling you what you can and can’t do at Amazon. Only a sliver of the competition. Much greater clout.
