So, what kinds of candles are popular on Etsy? Candles with amusing slogans would be the first category. “Funny phrases may range from crass and nasty to witty and a play on words, depending on your sense of humor,” Rachel explains before giving some examples. “Smells like the last F I gave” or “I wonder if bacon thinks about me too” or “Every great mother shouts the F-word” or “Smells like freshly signed divorce papers,” to name a few. Classic.
Another candle category that does well is party favors. Think bridal showers, weddings, bachelorette parties, baby showers, and so on and so forth. “Thanks for coming to Abbie’s bridal shower 2022” or “This wedding is going to be lit” or “Bridesmaid (noun): A best friend who is like a sister; someone a bride’s big day would be incomplete without” or “Amelia & Gabriel 5.20.22” or, well, you probably get the idea by now. The options are endless and you’re able to give customers exactly what they need.
Consider astrological candles as well. “So this might be a very fun gift for folks that appreciate their zodiac signs,” Rachel says, “and you can build candles based on each sign’s traits.” You might, for example, Google “qualities of a Libra” and write them down on a candle. Personalized candles are also an option. If you’re a member of the Low-Hanging System, we can teach you how to make customized things. “Like for a birthday or anything.”
Then there were the candles with motivational inscriptions. These will also sell nicely in your Etsy shop. “As a result, people often light candles to create a tranquil, zen ambiance,” Rachel explains. “As a result, candles with calming, comforting words like ‘Abundance’ or ‘Self-love,’ ‘Joy,’ ‘Peace,’ ‘Gratitude,’ ‘Positive energy,’ ‘Focus,’ ‘Clarity,’ ‘Hugging a star,’ ‘Good vibrations only,’ and similar phrases may appeal to them.” It would also make an excellent get-well gift. A candle just has that meditative quality.”
Candles may also be sold as presents for special occasions. Birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings, graduations, promotions, new jobs, retirements, and so on. You may even market candles that speak to certain individuals. Candles for mom, dad, brother, sister, spouse, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, colleague, accountant, lawyer, teacher, dentist, coach, neighbor, therapist, side chick (just joking), and so on.
Finally, personalizations should not be overlooked. No, they’re not as easy to come up with, but things like someone’s name, birthday, anniversary date, bespoke phrase, or you could add a specific picture, or anything else you can think of may still get you money. Maybe they went to Miami, and you might say something like, “Light this to remember our time together in Miami” or anything. Rachel Rofe’s work is always fantastic.
