Sophie Howard Interview

Eight years ago, Sophie Howard was slaving away in a government job. She had a toddler and a baby at home. It was a little much. She was overworked, exhausted, and stressed. And her family’s financial situation remained unchanged. Her nanny emailed her a snapshot of her with the kids at the beach while she was at work, snuggled in her cubicle, working away. While she was appreciative for her nanny’s excellent care of her children, why wasn’t she out in the sun with them? There has to be a change.

“I need to figure out a way to get out of here, down to that beach, and spend time with my kids instead of working extremely hard for someone else,” Sophie reflected. “So I did some digging and looked at a number of other alternatives for stuff you can do online.” And since I was living in New Zealand, where the market is so small, I thought it had to be done online; it couldn’t simply be a side hustle that generated a little money in the future. It had to work if I was going to start anything, and it had to be able to replace a respectable pay.”

So she went online and looked at all of the popular business concepts. Some were a touch too cheesy for her, while others she couldn’t imagine herself performing. Some seemed to take an eternity to get underway. Some of it seemed to be really difficult. When she discovered Amazon, though, she fell in love with the idea of selling real items to real people. You had the option of selling everything you wanted. All of Amazon’s customers have already signed up. You may earn money while you sleep. Sophie thought it ticked all the criteria.

Funny enough, she didn’t follow any of the principles from the Amazon FBA training she’d completed when she debuted. “Find inexpensive plastic things from China and sell them on Amazon,” as the saying goes. No, no, no. That didn’t make any sense to me. Sophie, on the other hand, opted to offer high-end, well-branded luxury goods. Items that her clients would adore and be ready to pay a higher price for. Her first product was handcrafted, costing less than a dollar, and selling for roughly thirty dollars on Amazon. Nice.

“I started out pretty modest,” Sophie said, “with only a seventy-five unit purchase of this product.” So that was a really low-cost way to get started, and I was off. I sold over a million dollars worth of this stuff on Amazon dot com in the first year and a half, from home, with the kids at home, and it was the start of a whole new experience. So for the last five years, I’ve simply been doing that: discovering new things from all over the globe, releasing them on Amazon, and then sitting back and waiting for Amazon to pay me every two weeks.”

The items you choose determine whether you win or lose the war. If you do everything correctly, have it branded and wrapped neatly, and get it transported to the Amazon warehouse in one piece? Sophie responds, “You’re money.” She prefers low-demand items, believe it or not. Her first seven-figure offering, in fact, had practically no demand (aka search volume on Amazon). She established the market entirely on her own. The reason for this is because if everyone uses the same tools and criteria, they would all get to the same result, making the competition pointless.

Sophie would rather work really hard than compete with other Amazon FBA merchants. She doesn’t want to be in a pricing war, she doesn’t want to have to out-launch or out-market anybody, and she doesn’t want to be compelled to utilize black-hat means to obtain a lot of reviews. Consider enrolling in “The Amazon Selling Queen’s” Blue Sky Amazon course if you want to learn her strategies. The price is roughly $4,000. Sophie has lately begun advertising a product called Kindle Publishing Income that teaches people how to generate money by submitting eBooks to Amazon. It’s also worth a look.
