The commercial resumes in the midst of the desert. Jeff introduces himself and explains how he become a billionaire via an unorthodox route. He didn’t work a 9-to-5 job for 40 years, max up his 401(k), and wait for compounding to take effect. He didn’t come up with anything new. Alternatively, you may win big on a scratcher. There is no trust fund. He just used the internet to take a “huge shortcut,” and here we are, $50 million later.

Jeff is also going to offer his secrets in a simple book called The Millionaire Shortcut for a limited period. He insists it’s completely free. There are no strings connected. “And I assure you, it’ll be the most compelling book you’ve ever read on the topic of how regular people are becoming billionaires quickly in the new economy,” he continues.

However, I was underwhelmed after clicking the button and providing my email address to obtain it. In fact, I was irritated. It had the feel of a bait-and-switch. I was immediately sent to a video sales letter. I was persuaded to purchase a $39 course before the countdown timer struck zero after a lot of hype and little indication of what I’d really be studying. After that, there would almost certainly be upsells. Hard-pass.

Jeff’s “book” appears in my email a few minutes later. I believe he intended to refer to it as a brief PDF document that pre-sold the course I described before. You may be wondering what the major “shortcut” was. To locate a rich mentor and follow in their footsteps. That is all there is to it. Jeff, you’ve done some ground-breaking work. It’s also quite handy that you’re a billionaire who provides mentorship. Please. Take my credit card and use it to make a purchase. I’d want to purchase a new Can-Am for you.

While I’m sure Jeff Lerner can teach you a thing or two about digital marketing, I couldn’t get over the lack of openness. If you’re selling anything, mention it in the ad. If your “lead magnet” is a waste of time, don’t portray it as a strong book that will earn you seven figures in no time. What about a few specifics? What will I learn throughout the course? How will it make me a multi-billionaire on the internet like you? Please join the dots for me. And after that initial purchase, what can I expect?

There’s a reason he doesn’t do any of those things, obviously. ROAS. Return on ad spend is a term used to describe the amount of money spent on advertising. Sincerity would reduce it to nothing. Even if we ignore it, Jeff Lerner seems to be a generalist. I’d rather learn from someone who knows what they’re doing. Someone who lives, breathes, and sleeps their trade. Someone who can take my hand and guide me through each stage, nearly ensuring the end I want.

So I wouldn’t be interested in Jeff Lerner’s course unless it was on how to run a YouTube commercial with deceptive marketing to sell a generic course followed by a slew of upsells. So, how about you?
